Five easy steps
Step 1: Decide how much you want to bet. The minimum wager is $2.00. Betting more is your decision.
Step 2: Pick your horse. Your choice can be based on various factors. You can pick a horse because of its name, number or colour. That’s the fun factor. Or you can base your choice on a horse’s past performance, or the jockey’s or driver’s record. Race programs, which are available for a small amount, provide information on all the horses and past results. You don’t absolutely need to buy a program, but it could help.
Step 3: Choose your basic bet.
Once you have mastered these basic bets, you’re ready to try other types such as the Daily Double, Exacta, Trifecta, Pick 3 or Pick 4. They’re similar to the basic bets but have a lot more entertainment value. With this type of bet, you stand the chance of winning much more. Below are some examples to help you place these bets.
Step 4: Go to a window or self-service machine to place your bet. You’re ready once you have decided on the amount you want to bet, the horse and the type of bet. At the window, provide the teller with the following information:
The teller collects your money and prints off your ticket. Be sure to check your ticket to confirm the bet.
You can also place your bet at a self-service machine. First step is to insert either your cash or credit voucher.
Step 5: After the race.
Wait until the official results are posted to confirm whether you have a winning ticket
